Unicorns
What do you think of when you think of a unicorn? Do you think of My Little Pony movies? Do you think of midieval european tapestries? Maybe you are more worldly and thought of the Chinese Quilin?
No matter which of these came to mind, you are technically correct. All of those can be classified as unicorns! The word Unicorn simply refers to any creature that has a singular horn. Uni = one, Corn = horn. Does that make the Rhinocerous a unicorn too? Well.. technically! Another term for the unicorn I think of most oftenly (white horse, one single horn, long white mane) is a Monocerous.. doesn't sound as graceful, does it? For simplicity's sake I will only really talk about the mideival european take on the unicorn.
Tips to find a REAL life Unicorn:
-The best time of day to find a unicorn is just after the sunrise begins.
-A key factor to a unicorn aparrition being viable is the following: presence of grass, flowers, morning dew. Meadows/subtropical forests are the best place to try to spot one.
-The scent of wildflowers and morning dew can attract a unicorn, but do NOT try to trick them with artificial attractants such as perfumes/extracts.
-A tricked unicorn can become extremely dangerous and they are not afraid to kick or spear you for arrogance!
-Additionally, unicorns are traditionally known to appear only to those with pure hearts and historically are more commonly known to appear to young women, but everyone can try.
-Unicorns are known to have magical powers including but not limited to: teleportation, immortality, healing properties, the ability to become invisible and extremely keen hearing/sight.
If you DO encounter a unicorn but offend him/her, you have likely squandered your only chance. Unicorns are highly intelligent/social animals, and if you wrong one unicorn, you have effectively wronged them all.
Unicorns have become more cautious to humans lately due to their willingness to poach other animals.. that being said, if you do wish to hunt or kill a unicorn, their horns/hair are said to have healing properties, but this is not proven.
